A new door hardware concept debuting at Melbourne Design Week at First Touch.

A sculptural exploration of forgery and authorship, these one-off pieces are crafted in Coburg (Naarm / Melbourne) through a hybrid process of 3D printing, moulding and casting. The work examines the dual meanings of forgery — as both invention and counterfeit — questioning authorship, material worth and originality.

Scrap aluminium horseshoes are melted down and sand-cast, then hand-finished and oxidised. Ceramic faceplates are formed from reclaimed porcelain — wheel-thrown or press-moulded — and triple-fired with metallic glazes to achieve an iridescent surface. Recycled porcelain is coated in a metallic glaze, ‘forging’ a new material identity.

By transforming waste into object, the handle opens a subtle dialogue around permanence, design value, and the layered narratives embedded in material reuse.
