Melbourne Design Week 2019 – But First We Eat - Exhibition and series of dinners, March 15 - April 4, 2019.
From March 15 2019 to March 15 2017, I took part in a 3 month residency at the European Ceramic Work Centre in Oisterwijk, The Netherlands.
I lived and worked with 15 other artists, designers and ceramicists from all over the world. People had backgrounds in ceramics, visual arts, architecture, industrial design, interior design, sculpture and fine arts. They typically came to work on large scale projects as the biggest kiln is 6m squared, a lot bigger than my previous maximum of 55cm squared. This potential for scale opened a whole range of possibilities, as did access to ceramic technology that I hadn't been aware of previously. I was like a kid in a toyshop with 24hr/7 day access to tools and knowledge, specifically, 3D ceramic or plastic printing, 3D scanning, dedicated mold making/metal/wood workshops, engineers, glaze/mold/rendering/3D/ceramic specialists to help realise any project I could imagine. Over my time there I learnt lots of tips and tricks but the main benefit might be an awareness of future possibilities. Here are just a few of my 6,000 pics from that experience.
